FrISC Shorts are Centerpiece Event of Friars Club Comedy Film Festival
The Friars Club Improv + Sketch Competition [FrISC] was held in June at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. The winning teams in each category, The Mantzoukas Brothers (improv) and Onassis (sketch), won $5,000 to make short films which will premiere as the centerpiece of this year’s Friars Club Comedy Film Festival. Also showing as part of the FrISC screening is The Antagonist (2010 FCCFF, Best Short), Night Home, a short film starring TJ Miller and Thomas Middleditch, and the debut of a Funny or Die exclusive.
The FrISC Shorts block will be the centerpiece to the festival, screening at the Clearview Cinema in Chelsea (23rd St at 8th Ave) on Friday, October 14 at 9:00pm. Tickets are on sale now.

The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival was launched in 2009 to showcase the best and funniest comedy films from around the world. Introduced to fill a void in the film festival world when it comes to comedy, the four-day festival celebrates comedy and independent filmmakers, featuring the best in comedy including feature films, shorts and panel discussions. In its debut year, the festival featured the US premiere of the Coen brothers’ Academy Award-nominated film, A Serious Man, while a highlight of the 2010 event was the 2011 Oscar-winning short God of Love, directed by Luke Matheny.
Visit the official FCCFF website for more information on the festival and to see a complete list of films and screening schedule. Become a fan of the FCCFF on Facebook and follow us on Twitter (@FriarsFilmFest, #FCCFF) to make sure you get all FCCFF updates and news!

Jason Saenz is a writer for the UCB Sketch Team ONASSIS, who won big at the 2010 FRISC competition at UCB NY last month. The grand prize was $5,000 in which they are now using to produce a pilot to premier at the Friar’s Club Film Fest in Oct. Congrats, Jason! You sexy man beast!

Many successful T.V. shows try to reinvent themselves after ratings start to drop, but what if a show tried to reinvent itself several times every episode? That’s what Free Comedy! has spoofed in their new video “Shark Jumps” where we take the concept of “jumping the shark” and tired to fit as many of those moments as we could within 4 minutes.
Free Comedy! is Nick Turner, Jason Saenz, Vincenzo Picciano, and Justin Tyler.
